Description

Product Introduction

Flexible stone-filled mesh lining for open channels, canals, spillways, and drainage ditches requiring erosion resistance, permeability, and tolerance of settlement.

Product Introduction

Zhongman channel lining systems use thin, wide Reno mattresses and related gabion units to protect channel beds and side slopes from erosion. The stone-filled cells form a continuous rough lining that resists hydraulic shear while remaining permeable and flexible. Diaphragms limit stone movement within each panel, and adjacent units are laced together so the channel behaves as one connected revetment. Compared with loose riprap, the wire mesh retains smaller armour stone and reduces the risk of progressive displacement. Compared with a rigid slab, the lining can accommodate moderate settlement and subgrade variation. Systems are custom scheduled for the channel geometry, including bed panels, side-slope panels, toe details, cutoffs, transitions, and outlet protection.

Hydraulic Advantages

The rough mattress surface slows near-bed flow and dissipates energy, while voids between stones allow pressure equalization and drainage. A connected lining protects the soil even when individual stones are exposed to turbulent flow. Flexible panels can settle locally without creating an immediate open erosion path, provided edges and joints remain secure. The stone surface also offers a more natural appearance than smooth concrete and may support vegetation in low-stress zones. Performance depends on matching mattress thickness, rock size, mesh opening, filter design, and anchorage to the design velocity or permissible shear stress. Zhongman supplies the manufactured components; the hydraulic designer remains responsible for selecting the protection class and footprint.

Specifications and Options

Channel units are made from double-twisted mesh in heavy galvanized, Zn-Al alloy, or polymer-coated wire. Mesh size and wire diameter follow the project standard and must retain the specified rock. Mattress thickness, cell length, overall panel size, side-slope coverage, cutoff depth, and toe configuration are produced to drawings. Options include lacing wire, fasteners, internal ties, filter geotextile, thicker gabion toe baskets, and separate transition units at structures. To prepare an accurate quotation, provide channel length, cross-sections, longitudinal slope, design flow or shear stress, soil type, stone grading, water chemistry, installation access, required service exposure, and the applicable specification.

Installation and Applications

The subgrade is trimmed and compacted to the design profile before the filter layer is placed. Mattresses are assembled, stretched into alignment, connected along all common edges, filled evenly, and closed without leaving unsupported pockets. Upstream and downstream cutoffs, side-slope anchorage, toe connections, culvert interfaces, and transitions to unlined soil require particular care. Typical applications include highway drainage, irrigation and drainage canals, flood channels, spillways, industrial watercourses, mine runoff channels, and river-training works. Where flow carries large debris or highly abrasive sediment, coating, wire diameter, stone quality, and inspection frequency should be increased to match the exposure.

Why Choose Zhongman

Zhongman manufactures baskets and mattresses on coordinated production lines, allowing a channel project to use consistent mesh, coating, accessories, and documentation from inlet to outlet. Bundles can be marked by chainage or structure reference and packed to match the construction sequence. Quality checks cover wire diameter, mesh dimensions, coating, panel size, diaphragm spacing, and quantity. Our team supports contractors with schedules, packing plans, samples, and clarification of ordering parameters. Send the hydraulic drawings and bill of quantities for a project-specific proposal; we will not substitute a generic mattress where the design calls for a different thickness, coating, or edge detail.
